Classes
The Cairns Mineral & Lapidary Club runs several classes for members throughout the year, including Cabochon cutting, Silver Smithing, and Faceting.
Spaces in each class are limited, so register for your class and we will contact you regarding availability.
You must be a financial member to book a class. You must have completed a class to use the workshops.
Cabochon Class
Cabochon Classes involve learning to cut shape and polish rocks. This course with an experienced instructor will teach you the skills to use the machines and work rocks into shapes that can be used for jewelry and household items.
Cabochon Class* $60- 6 weeks Wed & Sat 9am-12pm,
includes materials and workshop use.
Silver Smithing
Our Silver Classes offer members the opportunity to learn the art of silver jewellery making in a friendly, supportive workshop environment. Whether you’re completely new to silversmithing or looking to build on your existing skills, these classes provide hands‑on guidance from an experienced instructor and access to specialised tools and equipment.
Silver Classes* $250 - 6 Weeks Saturday 9-12pm includes materials and workshop use.
Faceting Class
Our Faceting Classes introduce members to the precise and rewarding craft of transforming rough gemstones into beautifully cut, sparkling jewels. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, you’ll learn the skills and techniques needed to create professional‑quality faceted stones using specialised equipment.
Faceting Classes* $75 - 6 Weeks Tuesday Nights 6-9pm
includes materials and workshop use.
* Class bookings are subject to instructor availability. Faceting class times may be flexible, contact us to discuss. All pricing is subject to review & change by the Committee.

Our work shop is available for members to use for a small fee. You must be a financial member to be able to use the workshop and equipment due to insurance requirements. You must have completed the classes before you can use the workshop.

We also have a variety of tools and materials available for members to purchase.
