The Cairns Mineral & Lapidary Club Inc. is an incorporated not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting the hobby of collecting, cutting, and polishing minerals and gemstones.

Established in 1961, the Club has been proudly serving the community for more than 60 years and is managed by a dedicated volunteer committee.

​

CMLC inc. is a member of the Queensland Lapidary and Allied Craft Clubs Association (QLACCA) and is governed in accordance with its constitution approved by the QLD Office of Fair Trading and club rules and protocols specific to club activities.

The Club's original constitution set out several key objectives that continue to guide us today:

​

• To bring together people with an interest in collecting, cutting, polishing, and studying gems and minerals.

• To encourage the sharing and exchange of knowledge and skills relating to gems, minerals, and their preparation and mounting, while fostering friendship and mutual support among members.

• To organise field trips to mineral collecting areas.

Today, these founding principles remain at the heart of everything we do. We continue to provide opportunities for members to learn new skills, share knowledge, attend educational workshops, participate in field trips, and enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded enthusiasts. The CLMC promotes geology, mineral collecting, mineral identification, lapidary skills including cutting, grinding and polishing of stones. The club room has on display a comprehensive collection of minerals donated by members and other clubs.

The Club is also proud to host the annual Cairns Gem Festival, bringing together collectors, artisans, traders, and the wider community to celebrate the fascinating world of gems and minerals.
